Visit of John Halamka, Chief Information Officer, Harvard Medical School

As part of the CETL initiative, John Halamka, Chief Information Officer of Harvard Medical School, visited the region in November and a week of events was planned which included a keynote lecture, 'Connecting Patients, Providers and Educators which took place on Thursday 3 November 2005 at 5.30 pm David Shaw Lecture Theatre, Medical School, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Dr Halamka visited the region as part of the development process for the Collaborative Centre for Excellence in Healthcare Professional Education (CETL4HealthNE) and delivered a keynote lecture on 3 November 2005 at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Dr Halamka is the Chief Information Officer of Harvard Medical School and also an Accident and Emergency Physician. He is in charge of all educational research and administration, including all electronic courseware development. He has already successfully completed much of what the CETL4HealthNE aims to achieve, for example, working across professional and organisational boundaries, easy (but appropriate) access to shared learning resources and patient records etc. regardless of whether located in University or clinical setting.
