Simulation is an area of importance both locally and nationally. It is recognised that there are a number of national priorities which are raising the profile of and the use and adoption of clinical simulation as a means for facilitating learning. These include the European working time directive, shorter patient stays, increased patient safety, pressure on placements and modernising medical careers to name a few. As part of a scoping exercise that was commissioned by CETL4HealthNE and NHS North East (Dec 08) it became clear that there is considerable interest in and commitment to the planned and present use of clinical simulation with the North East Region.
One of the aims of the scoping exercise was to formulate a definition of simulation the definiton that emerged was:
"Clinical simulation may be defined as the recreation or replication of a clinical setting for the purpose of clinical training. The clinical setting may be recreated or achieved by the use of a variety of methods and resources including manikins, part-task trainers, actors or patients within role-play or scenario based teaching"
We would like to invite you to join us at a networking event at the Clinical Skills Centre, Coach Lane Campus, Northumbria University on Monday 14th December between 1 and 4 pm. We would like to explore setting up a North East Region network for the sharing, collaboration and dissemination of best practice around simulation. This may include best practice in terms of scenarios, session plans, etc. This is an initial meeting to see if there is interest in setting up and establishing such a network or community of practice that may consist of face-to-face interactions and web-based interactions and resources.
We are very keen to hear about your institution's use of simulation in the education and training of healthcare professionals. We are actively encouraging institutions to participate by providing a brief 5 minute overview of simulation within their institutions. However, we are also keen to engage with institutions who are in the intial stages of considering simulation as this event is about networking and may offer the opportunity for us all to learn valuable lessons and share them across the region.
If you are unable to attend on this date but would like to be kept informed of future events please still register below and complete the Keep me Informed box.
