What exactly is the CETL mobile computing kit?

CETL4HealthNE have purchased a stock of mobile computing devices (PDAs) and medical literature collections on Secure Digital (SD) Memory cards that can be used in conjunction with the PDAs or with laptops/PCs


Dr Companion


The Dr Companion comes on an SD card which can be converted to use a USB port by removing a plastic slide (see below).  It can be run on a variety of operating systems and platforms such as PDAs, laptops, Apple Mac.

CETL ACER Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)

N311All ACER PDAs will be issued as a pack with the following:

        • PDA
        • Battery
        • Cradle
        • Carrying bag
        • A copy of Dr Companion on an SD Card

  • You can download a copy of the Acer N300 USer guide here in PDF format.

  • These PDAs use the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and allow users to use MS Office Mobile documents such as Word and PowerPoint whilst on the move.  However, they have NOT been set-up to use wireless networks and are not virus protected.


    Using the PDA for the first time.


    Make sure you charge the PDA up for several hours, preferably overnight on the cradle provided (below)

    Then insert the Dr Companion chip into the top of the PDA right way up and it should start up straight away.

    Please note that due to the imperative to issue the kit prior to students' placement, any support will have to be delivered in-situ at placement locations by Jonathan or Paul.
